I greet all members of the SLC family and those who wish to be part of this family any time in the future. The large SLC family comprises of our present students, the alumni, the faculty, and the administrative and support staff. Set up about half a century back to promote education in East Delhi, your College has come a long way since to become a centre of educational excellence in Delhi University.
Education, for us at SLC, goes far beyond the classroom learning experience. As they say, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” At SLC, we try to ignite thousands of such fires day in and day out, year after year. We enable our students to discover their hidden potential, and provide them with dynamic environment to nurture and promote that potential, enabling them to prosper in their respective fields, whether as professionals, musicians, painters, writers, etc., all while being socially aware and concerned citizens.
The girl child has been traditionally discriminated against in Indian society. We, at SLC, try to undo some of this discrimination in every possible way. We not only give preference to girl students at the time of admission, but give them continuous encouragement to participate in every aspect of College life with full vigor. However, our policy of supporting the deprived sections is not just confined to correcting the gender discrimination; within the University rules we try to give encouragement to the deprived communities by giving them preference both in admissions and College appointments.
A highly dedicated team of faculty members not withstanding, we very much realize the significance of efficient and modern physical infrastructure in developing the skills and personalities of our students. The College has recently been given a complete facelift and has been converted into an ultramodern institution which makes it one of the best premises to study in. A fully air-conditioned 80-seater Computer Lab and a fully air-conditioned Cafeteria are unique in the University. A re-designed and air-conditioned Staff Room is the envy of many a teacher in other colleges. The modular Administrative Office is suited to speedy and efficient work culture and it is hoped that it would be a pleasure visiting the Office for any matters relating to the College. The Library has been made fully air-conditioned, modernized, and fully computerised for locating books, journals, periodicals and is designed to save time spent in locating books and relevant reading materials.
While we take pride in the infrastructure facilities that we have succeeded in provided to our students with in recent past, we always strive to do better. We are very much aware of the expectations that our students have from us. I assure you that we will do our utmost best to make your stay in SLC a rewarding and memorable one. As leader of the institution, let me personally assure all students that my doors will always be open for suggestions from you, or for solution of any problem that you may face during your stay in College.
